Use of Tablets in the Classroom

UntitledBy Momina Hassan

As the technology is upgrading day by day, the method of teaching is changing as well, Instead of blackboard and chalk, now instructors use projector screens and laptops to show and write the content, it’s much easier to read and understand for the students. Tablets have taken over the attention of the world for quite a few years now. The IPAD was released a few years back, and since then many other companies jumped into making different kinds of tablets. It’s the most portable and easiest way out there now to connect with the rest of the world. It is being used in the world of education as well, though there are still many questions and concerns about this method but I believe it’s a great product which has more pros than cons if used the right way. Technology is infinite in all senses. Anyone can have the world in the palm of their hands by being connected to the Internet, a tool that can take you anywhere in a second. A very efficient way to use it, probably the most popular one, is for education. Textbooks and encyclopedias are beginning to be outdated and replaced by computers. Technology goes even further with the introduction of tablet computers, which are even more useful now that they are more practical and portable. The world is taking advantage of these new devices by using them to teach in many more ways than a textbook is able to.

Though tablets are a recent phenomenon, many students in high school and college have been using smartphones for years, and are already well-acquainted with touchscreen technology. Because they’ve become so accustomed to using these devices, students are increasingly expecting to use them in the classroom setting. When classrooms don’t implement what has now become “everyday” technology, we’re doing students a disservice.

The appeal of tablets to a college student is obvious: They’re thin, lightweight, and spring to life without delay, making them much easier to take to (and use in) class than a laptop or netbook. Longer battery life means that students don’t have to worry about carrying a charger with them. Forgot what the professor said at the end of class about the mid-term? Launch, tap the lecture and replay it in just seconds. That’s faster than texting a half-dozen classmates and waiting for what might be an inaccurate response.

It’s a great invention and we need to encourage its use in our education system, it has more pros than cons. We need to create a system which is useful for both students and the instructors, So both can take advantage of the modern education techniques and catch up with the rest of the world.

  1. Well, i agreed, the use of tablet in the classrooms, because, in this way become your lecture more interesting. And students pay more attention to lectures. by using tablet, you can do different task. This is good thing, if used in positive way. it should be used in our education system, but problem is that, in government sector this seems difficult, because every student can’t take this.

  2. Technology has changed everything including our life style. We are using tablets, I pads, and smart phones for many years and it’s the right time to put them into use for education purpose as well. They are light weighted, long battery life and easy to use. These small but wonderful gadgets can help us a lot in getting better education. What we need is to develop a system for students and teachers so that they could take advantage of these wonderful inventions and cope up with the rest of the world

  3. The notion of usage of certain tablets in education is scintillating but I believe for imitating countries where income disparity phenomenon prevails, it is quite arduous to entertain this notion as in bucolic life the fundamental facilities of education such as shelter, blackboard, or notebooks aren’t available in adequate manner. Although Government can ameliorate the conditions of such sector of population and give footing to masses to experience this splendid technology of tablets.

  4. yes,it is a good thing, the use of tablets in the classroom, because it helps a lot in student’s learing procees. It makes our lectures interesting and get rid of blackboard, chalk and other thins etc.Students pay more attention towards the lecturs instead of textbooks.I agreed that, they are thin, lightweigt and easy to carry then laptop or textbook. So we should appreciate the use of tablets in education system and take it in a positive way.

  5. Yes I am totally agree that tablets have more advantages.but we can not deny the disadvantages also.I think if they bring tablets in class they will involve in other activities rather than paying attention on lecture. Also it will creat disturbance in class.May be students start chating on facebook or other social media during the class with classmates or start doing posting status rather than listening lecture.

  6. Yes I agree to this. Technology is useful in all domains of life specially in education. Because education is something that makes you capable of doing well in life. And the use of technology is so common that no one can think of the survival without it. Then why it ahould not be used in the classrooms. It make will our stydents competent with the world

  7. As a person from the modern age, I should and must appreciate and applaud the introduction and induction of using IPADs in and outside the classrooms. It will not only aid the instruction on the part of the teacher but also will ease the process of learning for students as well.
Still, having said that, these developments does not necessarily come cost free for both the students and the teachers and it can lead students to use it for purposes other than those for learning. careful attention needs to be paid here . Otherwise, its a great development.

  8. Definitely the use of tablets like I pad, notebook etc. is very helpful for the teacher and the student as well. The addition of technology to the classroom activities making the academic work more colourful and interesting as students are more keen to learn in less time with ease.
