Few weeks ago while having a pleasant chit chat with my Baba (father), he suddenly said “i want to get an MBA degree”. on his statement my comment was, “what for? and in this age? how?” n he replied “by enrolling myself at Open University.”
he wouldn’t have thought about this idea if there was no concept of getting a degree without attending regular classes.
open universities and virtual classrooms have raised the bar of getting a degree without any age limit by sitting at home and clearing a course. you can get a degree from such institutes even by doing your job,or other workload you are stuck in.
such type of degree programs assign advisors or supervisors for help and interaction and guidance.
the only drawback of such degree programs is you don’t get exposure to communicate with different people more frequently.
but all in all, such programs should be promoted and should be introduced by more institutions so that people can easily complete their degrees which they had to leave for several reasons.
Honestly, It was really a sweet story… But everyone don’t have the same experience in life as Mr. Titus had to serve in the Korean war and on his return he worked as a salesman for which his studies were compromised. For him, getting a degree in this very age should definitely be an achievement so as to fulfill a promise from his mother as mentioned in this article. And he also had no plans for getting hired. If we consider it in the shoes of some other retired man, then that other person might want a job, which will again refer to the issue of hiring a man who had taken formal education from a known university or a person who got an informal degree from some online university.
Yes, it would be the most affordable and convenient way for getting a diploma or a degree for some working adult. But, the acceptability of this online degree in a market place is still boggling in my mind.
Mr. Titus’s story was interesting indeed, it was about his motivation and priority that he set even at such an age to achieve his goal and get a bachelors degree. Mr. Titus graduated and was able to fulfill his dream by becoming a member of W.G.U. Texas, a nonprofit online university. There are many people out there that suffer the same crisis and issues like Mr. Titus and end up having to compromise their education and their chance of gaining knowledge. Online Universities/courses benefit people in various ways for example people who cant afford to pay for a course can take a course online, people living in another country can also gain knowledge without having to move to a new country or people who have time management issues they can still gain knowledge and learn this way. Online Universities or taking online courses isn’t all that common here, people aren’t exactly aware about this so the education your receiving online may not hold that much value in some places though I’m not exactly sure about that. But the point is that there is no age limit required for gaining education so after reading Mr. Titus’s story I found online education quite beneficial actually, granted one will not be receiving a real class room interaction communication environment, but your still learning in a independent way.
Such a cute story aww 😛 he is a man of his words , he stood by his words ,kept the promise really impressive ,its good if someone has hunger for knowledge then they should not stop themselves and must go on in order to achieve their goals. There is no age limit for education , we people are lucky enough we are receiving education at right time but for those who cannot afford and if later in life they get a chance then i think such people should be encouraged. I respect such people alot. There are many people out there who want to gain knowledge ,whenever they can they must go for it.
the story of Mr. Titus seems quite interesting, he wanted to achieve a certain goal, and he didnt care about his appearance, here is mean it as age, he did it, his story is inspiration for thousands of people who have wanted to do some thing, to achieve something but because of certain factors they cannot reach their goals or dreams, his story sets an example, that one can do it, and technology in education has helped him reach his goal, as he did his degree online, people who cannot do the degree they wanted, because of financial problems or other things can now most definitely do them because of online teaching programs like this.
