In 21st century we have access to technology so advanced that we even don’t need pen and paper to do our homework, assignments and even for our exams, we can use the over budding technology. While the trend of paper pen education is dissolving into mist, the eBook, tablet PC’s trend is coming with full force. Some countries, like Portugal has distributed tablet PC’s among all its elementary students, so to make education completely digital, the countries like Korea has the same type of project in the pipeline.
Not even our assignments are getting digital, but the ways we connect to our teachers (emails) is also getting advanced. And now with all the big digital companies introducing their more and more advanced devices, eBook readers is a new trend, it helps you to access any book from any where on very cheap rates and even there are many free ones too. Even the publishing name like Barnes and Nobles has developed their own digital devices from which you can reach books; you can even make your own digital library with as many books as you want. These advanced digital devices not only help to buy and read books, but they have taken education to another level, because now students don’t need to carry overweighing bags on their shoulders, because with just one device in their hand and they can perform their all types of education related tasks. There is a little doubt that in a time frame of some 10-15 years education over the world will have a touch of these digital devices virtually everywhere.
It is not denied that both pen and pencil and technology pay important role in education, but with the passage of time technology is overcoming on pen and pencil. There are number of technological innovations that have occurred since the beginning of humanity. As they become familiar with needs-based inventions, they are prompted to consider how they helped change the way people lived and how societies worked. In the broadest sense, technology extends our abilities to change the world: to cut, shape, or put together materials; heavy books changed into eBooks; hours taking problem can be solved in seconds. We use technology to try to change the world to suit us better. At this level it is interesting to compare present technology with that of earlier times, as well as the technology in their everyday lives with that of other places in the world. Then pen and pencil have their own importance, but modern technology can be replace fully.
The use of technology in classrooms can only be effective when the connection between the teacher, the students and the ideas are working in harmony. If technology itself becomes a hindrance or a distraction then it would fail to achieve the aim of education. As internet has left not even a single thing to be unexplored, various downloadable software and devices are also emerging that act as a technology used for cheating purposes in examination. Such as, Image Editing Software, the ‘watch hack’ and many others that can easily be a part of cell phones and tablet PC’s.
As far as E-books are concerned, I find it a bit useful as well as efficient. Incorporating E-books in classrooms will enhance the level of Learning, especially when you are allowed to comment on the text you have read and to discuss it with your fellows. But again, no matter what prototype of book would be given to the students, it’s all about their intrinsic motivation that encourages them to ‘READ’.
According to me a person living in this 21st century who has some awareness of technology and know his importance for his/her it is very difficult to negotiate this post. it is very true that technology is giving us ease and we can overcome from our research or assignment in a very short period of time but in the past people faced many troubles to find some relevant resources like books but no a days with the help of e book we can read or even buy whatever book we want. In past people make notes by using pens and pencils but now modern technology has change all this and updating us.
With changing trends perhaps, usage of Technology has become the need of the hour. Technology offers us an easier way to learn, so we all have to move on with technology and develop a strong bond with it, leaving pen and paper behind . We are so deeply connected and have become dependent on technology, that we cannot even think of going a single day without it. Who would want to write and then erase and so much of hustle, when we have the option of downloading apps, that too, with just a single click ? Of course, We would all prefer going with the electronic flow. But at the same time we cannot deny that using pencil and paper helps a child better understand and develop cognitively, because while using pen or pencil and paper, it has been proved, certain areas of our brain “light-up” which usually don’t happen when we use ipads or computers and other electronic items, and a reason behind this could be probably that technology doesn’t allow us to use our brain and we leave everything for our computers, to do for us. I believe technology ” is ” playing a vital role but pen paper I guess ,we need them anyway.

Who needs pen and papers??
I’ll take this statement in a different way…
This is the world of TECHNOLOGY — agree..!!!
People nowadays feels easy carrying laptops, tablets, ipads and other devices–agree…!!!
But what about people living in remotes areas and students studying in government schools….??
They don’t get such facilities there… even in those schools they even don’t have computer labs. The only have papers and pens that’s it….
So we have to think in a different way…
Yes pen and papers are the need too..
Typing is not applicable and efficient in every field… e.g short hand can only be written by hands
I agree with miss Rabeeia that handwriting is no more in such use like it was before, technology was promoted and digital devices invented because the world was in need.As it saves much time,as compared to pen and a piece of paper but still its importance persists.Something written is more nearer to the intellect. You can touch your words and by the same intensity you can feel their meanings.Something you write seems more ORIGINAL, more YOU, then any other type of writing. People still write diaries which reflects SELF in a better way than typing in MS Word Software. Last but not least, If we talk about a personal sign which makes a paper a contract, a treaty, or a valuable document is also handwriting although documents can be signed on tablets too but, the printed document doesn’t value so much as handwritten is. 🙂
This century is ruled by technology which is now used in almost every sector. Technology is over taking the usage of pens and papers and has become more important if one ponders over this situation. For example if a student has to make an assignment instead of going to the library and sitting there for hours, spending time by looking through books and jotting down the useful information that they might need, students now just open up Google from their ipads or laptops for the information they want or check out some eBooks and then they type up their assignment on Microsoft Word or some other soft ware instead of handing in a hand written assignment. Technology has become so common in the educational sector but that doesn’t mean that the values of pens and paper has been forgotten completely. There are many schools and even universities that aren’t that well developed and still prefer to use pens and paper instead of depending wholly on technology which is actually a good thing. Students should be kept up to date, they should know how to use technology but they shouldn’t end up relying to much on it and forget completely about the importance of pens and paper.
